Description
We needed an instructor training safety barrel for classroom, shoot house, and other inert environments designed in such a way that no live rounds could possibly be introduced into the weapon. We couldn’t find the desired product, so we decided to create it.
You can teach fundamentals with a blue gun, but you can’t properly teach trigger control/manipulation, reloads with retention, or combat/slide lock reloads. Plus, there are times when the ability to train with the actual firearm in an inert environment is a huge benefit; new RDS shooters experiencing dot wash in low light conditions or simply not having to move weapon mounted lights between operational and inert guns. Much better to just make the student’s operational gun temporarily inert.
The perfect training aid for CCW instructors; Military/LE agency and academy firearms instructors and students; great for teaching fundamentals in a classroom environment; building clearing/shoot house training/defensive tactics training/weapon retention drills, competitive shooters; dry fire training. Basically, anytime or anywhere an inert firearm with 360-degree visual indication of the inert status is critical.
We have thousands of these barrels currently in use by basic mandate academies, correctional/rehabilitation institutions, as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across the United States and Canada.
Available in yellow or bright safety orange. This choice causes confusion for some on the best color choice. Yellow is the brightest color on the chromaticity scale and is the first color the human eye notices; highly effective in daytime so it’s great for safety applications. Orange is a popular choice but only excels over yellow for recognition and visibility purposes in low light environments.
The feed ramp and chamber area of our instruction training safety barrel is solid to eliminate any possibility of live ammunition from being inserted into the inert barrel.
The barrel has a small amount of extra length on the end by design. This provides better visibility for people on the sides to see that the inert barrel is in the gun and therefore safe. The extra length can be cut off with a saw or cutoff wheel if it isn’t desired or isn’t compatible with the holster you’re using.
There are some other training/safety barrels available, but they don’t allow full slide functionality, or they have a restriction on the number of times you can release the slide from slide lock before they’ll break. Our barrels have no such limitations and are backed by a lifetime guarantee.
Each barrel is individually fit and tested before shipment. Customization is available, other colors, text, numbering, etc. Contact us for details. Discounts are available for large quantity purchases.
Fitment and Notes:
Our barrels are designed for factory Glock and Sig pistols. They do not work on guns/slides from companies that provide similar products but alter the factory specifications and dimensions, i.e. Shadow Systems guns.
Glock models available for Glock Gen 3/4 or Gen 5 models 19/23, 17/22/31/34, 43/43X, 45, 47, and 48.
The Gen 3/4 and Gen 5 17/22/31/34/35 barrels are not interchangeable due to the different barrel lug and recoil spring assembly dimensions on the Gen 5 barrel compared to earlier generations. The Glock 19 barrel works on generations 3, 4, and 5.
Sig models available for 3.1″ barrel Sig P365, P365X, Optic Ready, XMacro Comp, AXG Legion, 3.7″ barrel P365XL, XMacro, XMacro Tacops and 3.9″ barrel Sig P320C and 4.7″ barrel P320. The Sig P365 barrels will not fit the 9mm P365-FUSE or any .380 caliber P365. The Sig P320 and P320C barrels will not fit the Sig Legion or X series pistols. Some older Sig P320C guns have different barrels than newer guns. The serial number of a gun our inert barrel didn’t work in is in the 58B03xxxx range. We are trying to find out where in the P320C serial number range the barrel change took place.
The Glock 43/43X/48 and Sig P365/365XL barrels are solid at the muzzle end. All other barrel models have the muzzle end is drilled for use with retention holsters or holsters that have a muzzle plug that goes in the end of the barrel to secure the weapon in the holster.
G48 barrel on the left and Gen 5 G17 barrel on the right.
For the Glock models, we offer a complete Instructor Training Safety Barrel Kit which pairs our inert barrel with base pads and dummy rounds.
If your inert training includes holster work, we recommend pairing the Instructor Training Safety Barrel with our Glock Instructor Training Safety Mag. This is an additional visual indicator of inert status since the safety barrel is not visible when the pistol is in a holster that covers the ejection port area. In lieu of the Instructor Training Safety Mag, high vis tape the same color as the Instructor Training Safety Barrel can be wrapped around the grip of the gun, but this option provides no visibility in addition to the barrel when the shooter has a two-hand grip on the weapon. If you need a patrol rifle equivalent, they are available Here.

Plano 3700 or Anvil plastic boxes work great for storing factory barrels during inert training with large classes. The shooter’s name can be written on painter’s tape applied to the factory barrel to ensure the correct barrel is re-installed in the correct gun after inert training is completed.
